The fieldwork placement provides the opportunity for you to apply and develop practice skills under the guidance of an experienced practitioner. A critical examination of the relationship between theory and practice is central to placement learning. In particular Placement 3: Youth and Community Work Project provides you with a structured opportunity to experience and examine community development and youth work within a community setting. This will enable you to develop understanding and demonstrate competences through experience and reflective practice.

Introduction to Course Outline

Work defines how people live their lives and is a major factor in formation our identities. In recent years work has changed immensely with the rise of globalisation, de-industrialisation and the ending of the old certainties which underpin working lives.  Societies are held together through key institutions, they order our lives by shaping our daily activities and define many of the possible ways in which individuals and groups relate to one another. Core institutions such as family and work are crucial to the stability of our lives. In this module we will explore one of these institutions, the world of work and how this concept affects, influences and defines who we are and where we are placed in society
