This module aims to explore the concept and process of globalisation, which you will link to global perspectives. You will develop critical awareness of globalisation as an unequal process in the global market, and how this impacts on geographical localities, community groups, as a result of everyday global issues and crises.

The focus will be on exploring young people's communities everyday realities in the global world by making the connection between the local and the global. You will develop an awareness of the interconnection between the social and economic and the environment, as you engage in topics such as climate change, poverty reduction, ethical consumerism, and sustainable consumption and production. The process of learning will include capacity to develop your own self-awareness of global issues that impact on your life as you engage with particular topics.

You will learn about the significance of Global Youth Work models and the purpose for an Education for Sustainability that will enable you to prepare, plan and facilitate opportunities for learning and community action and development. You will learn to recognise the strengths, skills and assets in communities and community groups, as vital components to planning strategies that will support them in acquiring the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future. Finally, you will explore how to assess and evaluate a project in preparation for taking feasibility studies in your future employment.

Lessons will be delivered via a mix of UoB class taught sessions and online Zoom or in-person tutorials.
